Help to get people back into work

Cameron
Cameron, originally from Stirling is a carpenter with over thirty years experience under his belt. A single parent, he had been juggling the demands of raising his 11 year old daughter and trying to find work and was all but resigned to surviving on Income Support.

His ambition was to start his own company; he had the skill and knowledge, he just lacked the tools. Then one day while at Catford Job Centre browsing the boards for a job he saw a poster advertising ScotsCare, he called our helpline and asked if we could help.

After discussing his needs with our Training & Employment Advisor we discovered that Cameron was also trying to train as a ski instructor specialising in working with disabled skiers; he was already volunteering with a disabled ski club near his home in Bromley.

ScotsCare was able to step in and purchase the tools Cameron needed to finally become self-employed as well as fund the remaining courses required for him to become a qualified ski instructor.

As Cameron explains, “ ScotsCare showed an open-minded spirit towards helping others; they were resourceful, positive and practical, never judgmental. In helping me to achieve my ambitions of running my own business, I in turn trained as a Ski Instructor and was able to put something back in a way that I love, helping disabled youngsters learn to ski.”
