Housing for the elderly and severely disabled

Emma
Emma moved to East London from Scotland in 1950. Although she had been happy in her previous accommodation she had been living on the top floor of a building with no lift. Following a diagnosis of Diabetes and Angina she found accessing her top floor flat impossible. Emma was aware of the work of ScotsCare through her mother who at the time was a client and so she made an application for sheltered housing. ScotsCare were able to offer her a tenancy at Bruce Gardens which she took up in 1997.
Over the past couple of years Emma’s health has deteriorated and she is badly affected by Arthritis in her feet, which restricts her mobility; she is therefore more dependent on her immediate community, particularly for socialising. Emma enjoys living at Bruce Gardens, a keen gardener she likes to sit out in the warmer months and is very active in social events on site, being an elected member of the Tenants Committee.
