Richard
Richard is 73 and originally from Glasgow. A butcher by trade he had a thriving business until he was diagnosed with a brain tumour when he was 50, once it was removed his life changed. He lost his business and his home; he started drinking heavily, separated from his wife and eventually moved to London when he was 53.

Moving from hostel to hostel Richard eventually settled at a Seaman’s Mission where he lived for ten years, sharing bathroom facilities and no cooking facilities. Then in 2003 Richard heard about ScotsCare and approached us for help.

Within a short period of time ScotsCare managed to house Richard. Initially he was a little unsettled, being unaccustomed to having a place to call his own, now he is very comfortable within the community and participates in most of the social activities. With some assistance from the Warden, Richard now manages his finances independently and can cope with his own cooking and housework.
